I build for users and design systems that last.

I am Andrew Garvin, a software engineer with over a decade of experience in system design and front-end architecture. I lead projects from an idea through to delivery.

01 / Practices

A disciplined approach to every project I work on.

The same habits apply whether the work is a client platform or a small tool.

  • P-01

    User-centric approach

I build software for the people who use it. I start by understanding what they need, ship in small steps and adjust as those needs become clearer.

  • P-02

    Design patterns

I rely on patterns the industry has proven, and build for reuse. Code and systems are arranged so they can change as user needs evolve.

  • P-03

    Communication

I talk with users and with teammates throughout a project. Understanding the problem together comes before writing the code.

  • P-04

    Project delivery

I lead a project from planning through building and testing to delivery. I talk with the right stakeholders, ask the right questions and keep a deep understanding of the work throughout.

  • P-05

    Facilitation

I lead the discussions, workshops and training sessions that give engineers and teams a shared understanding. Speaking clearly to a room is one of my strengths.

  • P-06

    Testing and observability

I test every variant of how the software behaves, and instrument each project so I catch an issue before a customer experiences it or reports it.

02 / Roles

The roles I work in.

  • System design

I spend much of my time on how a system should be built and how it will scale.

  • Front-end architecture

Front-end development is where I have the most experience. I think about code organization and design patterns, and implement high-quality front-end architecture.

  • Design systems

I have spent a lot of time learning how to build design systems that scale across products and teams.

  • Team leadership

I have led engineering teams and designed the systems they built.

03 / Experience

04 / Side projects

What I build on the side.

Tools, games and experiments from outside of work.

  • GHOST

A map of my home network and every device on it, reachable privately from anywhere.

    2026

  • Three.js sandbox

    A 3D world with a controllable character, a third-person camera and a collision system I wrote.

    2026

  • Paper trading bot

An automated trader for paper accounts, with market regime detection and circuit breakers.

    2025

  • Whisper Board

A grid whiteboard for a tabletop campaign. The game master moves players and the board updates for everyone.
